Man accused of impersonating Coast Guard officer, discharging sewage near White Shoal Lighthouse, MI
Federal officials have indicted a Traverse City man after allegations that he impersonated a Coast Guard officer while he interacted with a boater in a distress situation, and that he dumped sewage near a Lake Michigan lighthouse.
The case against Brent Alan Tompkins, 52, is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan

The old Cape Henry Lighthouse, VA, has reopened for tours, with new rules
The old Cape Henry Lighthouse in Virginia Beach is open again to civilians.
The Lighthouse sits on the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort and was closed to non-military personnel in February for security reasons.

Registration open for 'Topless' Labor Day Lighthouse 5K
The annual Labor Day Lighthouse 5K will return to Buxton on Monday, Sept. 7, and organizers are encouraging runners and walkers to register early and add the September event to their calendars.
Now in its third year, the race is organized by the Barrier Island Group, or B.I.G., and benefits multiple Hatteras Island organizations and causes

WUCF's Florida Road Trip returns Sept. 17 with eight new episodes
WUCF's original series "Florida Road Trip' will return in September with eight new episodes exploring communities, landmarks and history across the state.

Newly restored Tynemouth North Pier, UK, shut after vandal attack
A pier that only reopened a week ago following restoration work is shut again due to a "significant act of vandalism."
The Port of Tyne called the timing of Wednesday's attack, which it said had left an estimated repair bill of about £20,000, "particularly disappointing."

129-Year-Old Chequamegon Point light tower, WI, to be removed due to 'imminent safety risk'
A historic Great Lakes light tower is set to be dismantled.
The National Parks Service announced Monday that crews will soon remove the 42-foot Chequamegon Point Light Tower on Long Island in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore because it can no longer be preserved and is causing safety issues.

Biloxi Lighthouse, MS, undergoes restoration of upper deck and lantern room
Major renovations are underway at the Biloxi Lighthouse, according to public affairs specialist John Majure.
The lighthouse has stood for more than 175 years, Majure said.

Nubble Lighthouse, ME, incident: Man swam to island, broke window, York officials say
A man experiencing what police described as a "mental health crisis" was detained after swimming out to the island that houses Nubble Lighthouse and damaging one of the landmark's windows.
York Parks and Recreation Director Peter Murray said his office was notified that someone had swum across to the island on August. 25.
