Off the coast of Norwalk, Connecticut, a chain of small islands stretches across Long Island Sound - rugged, historic, and deeply tied to the people who live nearby.
For lifelong resident Jerry Toni, those waters hold generations of memories. Today, he channels that connection into preservation as executive director of the Norwalk Seaport Association, helping to maintain Sheffield Island Lighthouse.

U.S. Coast Guard launches search for suspect in Wisconsin Point lighthouse beacon theft, WI
Authorities in northern Wisconsin are searching for those responsible for a lighthouse beacon theft.
The U.S. Coast Guard is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information after someone broke in and stole the navigational beacon from the lighthouse on Lake Superior.

2 historic Michigan lighthouses to split $120K in preservation grants
Two historic Michigan lighthouses - one in Grand Haven and the otters in the Upper Peninsula- will split $120,000 in grants.
The grants come from the Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program and the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office.

Hunting Island Lighthouse, SC, set to reopen Tuesday after four-year restoration project
The Hunting Island Lighthouse is set to reopen to the public Tuesday morning after being closed for four years for restoration work and safety improvements.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the lighthouse on Hunting Island near St. Helena Island.

Iconic Algoma lighthouse, WI, moved from waterfront to Sturgeon Bay for facelift amid pier work
As of Tuesday afternoon, the view looking out at Lake Michigan from Algoma is a bit different.
"For everybody in the city, it's quite the iconic feature. It just sits east of the whole city of Algoma here," said Algoma City Administrator Matt Murphy.

City of Biloxi, MS, extends lighthouse restoration timeline
Restoration work at the Biloxi Lighthouse will take another three to four weeks to finish.
Crews began work on the upper deck at the top of the lighthouse two weeks ago, but now the work has expanded restoring the catwalk outside.

In Washington, Grays Harbor, the state's tallest lighthouse marks a beach town
Grays Harbor is one of the very few outer-coast harbors in Washington, which is why the federal government put a 107-foot lighthouse at its mouth in 1898.
That tower still stands on Point Chehalis at Westport, the tallest lighthouse in Washington and the third tallest on the West Coast.

Work begins on iconic Big Sable Point Lighthouse, MI, in preparation for $450K restoration
This landmark Lake Michigan lighthouse will remain open for tours during a major renovation project scheduled for next summer.
A small construction project will soon begin at Big Sable Point Lighthouse, ensuring uninterrupted visitor access during the $450,000 project to restore the exterior of the keeper's dwelling.

A bronze ring engraved with the Lighthouse of Alexandria has been found in Cleopatra's Sunken Harbor
An archaeological mission has recovered a bronze signet ring engraved with the Lighthouse of Alexandria from the sunken harbor of Cleopatra's city.
Egyptian officials say it is the first time the image of this Wonder of the Ancient World has appeared on a ring of this kind.
