Iconic Hunting Island Lighthouse, SC, again welcomes visitors after long closure, renovation
Standing in the shadow of the freshly renovated Hunting Island Lighthouse, seeking some escape from the late-May heat, Craig Bennett mused on the nature of preserving and restoring historic structures.
"When we all do our work well, no one can tell we were here," Sid Bennett, president of Bennett Preservation Engineering.

Alaska's oldest original lighthouse will soon open to the public for the first time
On a blustery morning in mid-May, some two dozen people transferred from a large boat to a smaller one and then onto a rocky island in the middle of Lynn Canal.
Left on the boat were stacks of wood meant for building bunk beds in the red-and-white lighthouse perched high above the shore.

Norwalk, CT, offers unique lighthouse adventure
This summer, the Norwalk Seaport Association and the Greens Ledge Light Preservaiton Society are offering a unique five-hour lighthouse cruise, inviting visitors to explore two iconic New England maritime landmarks.
Scheduled for for 6 June, 11 July, and 8 August, the adventure departs from Norwalks Seaport dock at 8:30 a.m., returning by 1:30 p.m.

New Ottawa Beach marker highlight Native American history at Big Red Lighthouse, MI
A historical marker has been rededicated at Ottawa Beach in Holland State Park, shining new light on the storied past of the Holland Harbor Lighthouse, widely known as Big Red.
The Holland Harbor Lighthouse Historical Commission, joined by several partner organizations, unveiled the updated marker on Tuesday.

Historic Heceta Head Lighthouse, OR, goes dark as it undergoes repairs
The light at Heceta Head Lighthouse has been turned off since March as crews work to repair part of its aging rotation system.
Oregon Parks & Recreation Department officials said worn mechanical wheels used to rotate the historic Fresnel lens needed to be repaired and rebuilt, the Lincoln Chronicle reports.

'Job well done': Manistee Lighthouse, MI, opens to the public
Lakeshore Keepers celebrated the public opening of the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse on Memorial Day, marking the first time the nearly century-old structure has been opened for public tours.
For Dean Collingwood, a board member of Lakeshore Keepers, the significance of the occasion was straightforward.

Charlotte woman first to complete the America 250 NC Lighthouse Challenge
Organizers of the NC Lighthouse Challenge have announced the first official finisher of the statewide coastal tourism and history initiative tied to North Carolina's America 250 celebration, as participation continues growing ahead of the 2026 anniversary year.
Tony Cerri, statewide coordinator for the CurrituckCounty America 250 NC Task Force, introduced Cathy Gourley of Charlotte as the first participant to complete the challenge.

The council's planning department has approved plans to transform Granton Lighthouse into a new creative hub for the community.
The City of Edinburgh Council submitted plans in November to its own planning department to transform the mid-19th century listed building.
