Makapuu Lighthouse Trail, HI, closed for maintenance Tuesday mornings in May
The Makapuu Point Lighthouse Trail will be temporarily closed for maintenance during three mornings in May.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources announced the closures after recent months of heavy rainfall created an overgrowth of vegetation along the trail.

Lighthouse Cafe to open at Montauk Point State Park this June
A new restaurant is about to open at New York's oldest lighthouse.
The 225-year-old Montauk Point Lighthouse will be adjacent to the Lighthouse Cafe, a historic restaurant space in the state park at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

Why Chicago's lighthouse is totally forgotten
Once considered a major engineering marvel protecting the entrance to Chicago Harbor, the old Chicago Lighthouse stood at the center of the city's explosive industrial rise, guiding ships through dangerous waters during the era when Chicago became America's transportation empire.
But as modern shipping routes, skyscrapers, and massive redevelopment projects transformed the waterfront, the lighthouse slowly disappeared from public memory, becoming one of the city's most overlooked historic structures.
- Note - He does make a mistake calling the Keeper's Wackies, rather than Wickies, and claims that it was referred to as a "spark plug" style, which is incorrect

Fernandina Beach seeks $406K in grants to restore historic Amelia Island Lighthouse, FL
The Fernandina Beach City Commission Tuesday approved a grant application aimed at securing more than $400,000 for continued restoration of one of Florida's most historic landmarks - the Amelia Island Lighthouse.
City commissioners authorized staff to apply for a $325,000 Special Category grant through the Florida Department of State's Division of Historical Resources, along with a companion $81,250 grant from the Florida Lighthouse Association to cover the required local match.

The only publicly accessible lighthouse in Texas can be found in Port Isabel
The Port Isabel Lighthouse has been a part of the Laguna Madre's cultural identity for centuries with a history that stretches back before the American Civil War.
It's also the only lighthouse in Texas that's open to the public.

Tibbetts Point Lighthouse, NY, sees record attendance, plans summer events
Tibbetts Point Lighthouse drew approximately 12,000 visitors through its visitor center marking an all-time high for the historic site.
Tom Schamerhorn, treasurer and board member of the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse Historical Society, said the record attendance reflects increased travel following the COVID-19 pandemic and extended operating hours.
