Federal government looking to transfer Stratford Point Lighthouse, CT, to new owner
The federal government is looking to transfer ownership of the Stratford Point Lighthouse, according to a notice from the U.S. General Services Administration Wednesday.

The historic 35-foot-tall cast iron lighthouse is now available for free, to certain eligible organizations.

Newport's Rose Island Lighthouse, in the middle of Narragansett Bay's West Passage between Newport and Jamestown, has served as a beacon for vessels since 1870.

Today, visitors can tour the tranquil island and historic lighthouse, and even stay overnight with advance planning.

Outer Banks lighthouse (Bodie Island) opens to climbers as restoration continues on famous companion (Cape Hatteras, NC)
One of three National Park Service lighthouses on North Carolina's Outer Banks has opened to climbers for spring and fall.

The 1848 Bodie Island Lighthouse, in Nags Head, opened Friday for daily, self-guided climbs through Oct. 13.

Keeping the history of the Canadian lighthouse keepers alive
When Valerie O'Brien leads a tour of the Point Armor Lighthouse, located on the south coast of Labrador, she brews a pot of Labrador tea for visitors to sample. It's a way to share a small tase of the area's culinary heritage.

"We just put a boiling water over the leaves and let it steep," she says of this member of the rhododendron family with a minty taste. "It's [good] for colds, coughs, the flu."

Renovating history: Point Lookout Lighthouse, MD, reopens
It helped guide ships through the hazards in the Chesapeake Bay and has a rich history in St. Mary's and mariner history.

And now the public will be able to learn about some of that history themselves following a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday that reopened the 195-year-old Point Lookout Lighthouse

Split Rock Lighthouse, MN, to close temporarily in May for restoration, repairs
An iconic site on the Lake Superior shoreline will be briefly closed to tourists this spring for repair and restoration.

Construction at Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors will start May 5, the Minnesota Historical Society said, at which point the lighthouse itself and other historic buildings will be closed to the public.

Lorain Lighthouse up for magazine's Best Lighthouse in 2025 award
Lorain Lighthouse is up for Best Lighthouse in 2025, according to a news release.

"The Jewel of the Port" is hoping for a 12th consecutive year of being honored as the best lighthouse by Cleveland-based Lake Erie Living magazine, the release said.

The historic Two Harbors Lighthouse, MN, bed and breakfast gets ready to open
The Lighthouse bed and breakfast in Two Harbors held an open house on Friday April 18th ahead of their May opening.

The Lake County historical society is in the midst of of a $40,000 fundraising campaign to restore the property. A boiler failure caused major damage there and the 3M museum during the January and February cold snap.

The Cape Florida Lighthouse at 200
The iconic Cape Florida Lighthouse may stand 95 feet in the air, but it's an often overlooked gem in Key Biscayne. This year, it turns 200 years old.

Local 10's Louis Aguirre explains the lighthouse's history and the preservation efforts underway in the Local 10 special "The Cape Florida Lighthouse at 200."
