OLD SAYBROOK — Interested parties got to inspect Lynde Point Lighthouse last month, but it may be several months more before it is announced which entity will be awarded the iconic structure.

Hurricane Lee's waves reveal historic lighthouse fence at Cape Hatteras, NC

CAPE HATTERAS NATIONAL SEASHORE, N.C. – Part of the fence foundation of the old Cape Hatteras Lighthouse site became uncovered once again as large waves from Hurricane Lee eroded the surrounding sand.

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was built in 1870 in North Carolina. While it was moved inland in 1999 from its original location on the shoreline, its fence foundation remained behind on the shore.

Former Olympic champion and college All-American win swim around Florida's Alligator Reef Lighthouse

Islamorada, Fla (AP) - A three-time Olympic gold medalist and a former college All-American won top honors Saturday at an annual 8-mile (13-kilometer) ocean swim around the Alligator Reef Lighthouse off the Florida Keys.

Olympian Brooke Bennett, 43, of Clearwater, was the top female swimmer, finishing second overall behind Connor Signorin, a former All-Amerianc at the University of Florida who lives in Tampa.

Looking back: Charlevoix (MI) lighthouse gets a facelift

CHARLEVOIX — This Looking Back, third in a series, and two for the rest of September celebrate the 75th anniversary of the installation of Charlevoix’s south pier light. It was put in place on Sept. 30, 1948, the fourth light to be built on the piers that provide entry from Lake Michigan into Round Lake.

A celebration of that anniversary event will take place in the pavilion at Lake Michigan Beach on Saturday, Sept. 30, between 2-4 p.m. Included will be live entertainment from area musician Pat Ryan, historical information, a lighthouse keeper interpreter, children's activities, the sound of the 1937 original foghorn nicknamed “Ferdinand” after the Disney cartoon character Ferdinand the Bull, and Historical Society lighthouse merchandise. Refreshments provided by Bywater Café at the beach will be available for purchase. Mark your calendars.

The Lighthouse Challenge of New Jersey is an annual event that takes place the third weekend of October each year.

$170K in government funding for Swallowtail Lighthouse, Canada

Fundraising efforts to restore an iconic Grand Manan lighthouse have received a boost from two levels of government.
