St. George Reef (CA) Raising Funds for Helicopter Flight Expenses
The St. George Reef Lighthouse is a wave-swept lighthouse, built on a rock seven-miles offshore from Crescent City, CA. Due to its unique location, the only way on or off the lighthouse is by helicopter - which makes for expensive transportation fees during restoration efforts!

With a goal of raising $10,000 by March 31, follow the link below to the St. George Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society's webpage for more details

The NFL helped plant cypress trees at the historic Tchefuncte River (LA) lighthouse. Here's why.
Dozens of volunteers planted bald cypress trees around a nearly 200-year-old Madisonville lighthouse for a wetlands restoration project Tuesday morning - the latest restoration event organized by Louisiana environmental groups in partnership with the NFL ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl in New Orleans.

A day after ex-Navy SEALs and others helped install an oyster reef in Leeville, volunteers from corporations just as Entergy and Dow Chemical and local nonprofits planted 600 cypress trees near the 1837 lighthouse, which sits on the edge of a tine peninsula west of Madisonville along Lake Pontchartrain near the Tchefuncte River.

Manistee lighthouse's (MI) move makes sense for the future
If someone were to take a survey of the things that make them think of the city of Manistee, I am sure numerous structures would come to mind.

Buildings like the Ramsdell Theatre, the Manistee Fire Department, the Victorian downtown structures and the Riverwalk, to just name a few. However, one you would more likely find on most people's lists is Manistee's North Pierhead Lighthouse.

Volunteers at Point Sur Lighthouse (CA) revive the wild story of a dirigible crash offshore, 90 years later
Most days, a person standing on the giant rock that is Point Sur can look out into the distance over the Pacific Ocean and see nothing, save for the occasional whale spout.

This is true today and it was true 90 years ago, when lighthouse keepers still staffed this facility that is today a State Historic Park. So it would have been particularly remarkable for lighthouse keepers Thomas Henderson and Harry Russell Miller on Feb. 16, 1935, to see a massive military airship, 785 feet long and 147 feet high, floating northward about three miles offshore and about 1,000 feet above the surface of the ocean.
