Corps of Engineers will look to save 150-year-old Hudson-Athens (NY) lighthouse from crumbling into the Hudson River
Federal engineers will begin the process of preserving a functioning 150-year-old lighthouse that sits precariously on a mudflat in the middle of the Hudson River in New York, officials announced Monday.
US Sen. Chuck Schumer and the Army Corps of Engineers said that $50,000 has been allocated to study how to protect the Hudson-Athens lighthouse.

'Bringing it back to life': Poplar Point (RI) Lighthouse to be relit after 142 years
For the first time in 142 years, the Poplar Point Lighthouse will soon shine across Wickford Harbor and Narragansett Bay
Owners Russell and Cathy Shippee have gotten permission from the US Coast Guard to light the tower, which sits beside the jettied entrance to Wickford Harbor and hasn't been lit since 1882.

St. Augustine (FL) Lighthouse & Maritime Museum names chief curator as interim leader
The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, which is celebrating its 150th birthday, has named veteran staffer Jason Titcomb as interim executive director.
He succeeds Amy Craft Klassen, who recently departed for another job.

For the last five years, Hayes Scriven's life has been part and parcel of one of Minnesota's most iconic sites.
When the North Shore father of two took over as Split Rock Lighthouse's keeper and manager in 2019, he and his family moved into a little house within the lighthouse's state park.

Umpqua (OR) Lighthouse to participate in Oregon State Park's Winter Whale Watch Week
Douglas County lovers of all thins oceanic will be given a chance to see some rare sights over the Dec. 27 weekend with Oregon State Park's Winter Whale Watch Week, a whale-watching event hosted, in part, at the Umpqua Lighthouse.
"I think Whale Watch Week is a great time to come together and look for whales in community with other excited visitors," Oregon Parks and Recreation public information officer Stefanie Knowlton said.

Cape Florida Lighthouse turns 200
This week kicks off a year-long celebration of the 200th Anniversary Campaign of the iconic Cape Florida Lighthouse.
Built in 1825, the Cape Florida Lighthouse is a unique historical landmark perched on Key Biscayne and is the oldest standing historical structure in Miami-Dade County.

The only requirements are that the lighthouse is decorated for the season, including the names of the lighthouse, photographer and year taken.
