White Shoal, the Most Remote Lighthouse on Great Lakes Seeks Volunteer Keepers to Live for Days in the Middle of Nowhere

The tallest and most remote lighthouse in Michigan is searching for volunteers to serve as assistant keepers to live and work in complete solitude for days, according to a report.

The White Shoal Lighthouse, built 113 years ago, stands 125 feet tall in the Mackinac Straits on Lake Michigan. As one of the historic "crib" lighthouses sitting offshore on reefs, it was vital for navigation but has since transitioned into a preservation project led by the White Shoal Lighthouse Preservation Society, according to M Live.

Oregon's only intact wooden lighthouse (Yaquina Bay) will get some TLC in the New Year

Sitting atop a bluff at the mouth of the Yaquina River is a small wooden lighthouse in need of repair.  Soon, this piece of Oregon Coast history will undergo restorations meant to last for generations to come.

The Yaquina Bay lighthouse, which sits 161-feet above sea level, is believed to be the oldest structure in Newport. It's also the only Oregon lighthouse with living quarters attached and the last wooden lighthouse still standing on the coast.

Annual Biloxi Lighthouse (MS) lighting marks start of holiday season

For those driving down Highway 90 in Biloxi, it's hard to miss the red and green lights displayed up the 64-foot tall lighthouse.

Ocracoke Light Station (NC) renovations continue; equipment delivers this week will require temporary closures of Lighthouse Road

Three separate deliveries of construction equipment associated with the lifting of the Ocracoke Double Keeper's Quarters are scheduled to occur this coming week.

During the deliveries, Lighthouse Road - between approximately Loop Road and Martha Jane Lane - will be closed for up to 30 minutes.

Historic Hillsboro Inlet lighthouse (FL) glows once again for the holidays

The 147-foot Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse is festooned with a spectacular display of lights this holiday season, a tradition that began in 2020.

LED lights decorate each of the tower's 8 legs and one strand encircles the observation deck. Lighthouse Historian Ralph Krugler said that in the first year only he and Ken Herman, president of the Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society, tackled the task.

Dramatic Icicles Coat Trees and Lighthouse in Michigan as Temperatures Plummet

Dramatic icicles coated a pier and surrounding trees in Saint Joseph, Michigan, on Thursday, December 12, as subzero  windchills continued in the region.

Holiday magic awaits at the gorgeous Nubble, ME, lighthouse

There's nothing like the beauty and stature of a lighthouse. These iconic structures sit idly by, almost stoic in nature, through changing seasons and fickle weather.

Point Pinos Lighthouse, CA

An emblem of Pacific Grove, Point Pinos Lighthouse is the oldest continually operating lighthouse on the West Coast and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The building, lenses and prisms in this Pacific Grove lighthouse are all original and it is still an active aid to navigation.

Point Pinos Lighthouse is on e of the six lighthouses along the coast for which Congress appropriated funds shortly after California statehood was ratified.
