Dan Spinella replicates Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (NC) lens parts piece by piece
When the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was rescued 25 years ago from the edge of the Atlantic, the nation's tallest brick beacon was relocated with just an ordinary airport beacon in its lantern room.
It could be argued that return of the majestic first order Fresnel lens atop the 1870 lighthouse will be nearly as remarkable a feat as moving the 4,800-ton tower about a half-mile inland.

Although it's still an active aid to navigation for ships and vessels using the waters around it, the Coast Guard transferred its ownership and upkeep to a local New London nonprofit in 2014, and they have maintained it as a museum.

Beach renourishment project resumes at Sanibel's Lighthouse Beach Park, FL
If you've tried visiting Lighthouse Beach Park on Sanibel Island recently, you might have noticed signs saying the park is closed. That's because phase two of the beach renourishment project has begun.
Crews are hard at work, placing more than 105,000 tons of sand to strengthen the coastline and protect the historic Sanibel Lighthouse. This project is part of a larger effort that had to be paused earlier this year due to sea turtle nesting season.

His grandfather's name was Frank Schubert, and he was the last civilian lighthouse keeper in America. He moved to the site of the Coney Island Light, in the private community of Sea Gate, with his wife and kids in 1960.
