An iconic Outer Banks lighthouse is 'bleeding,' NC park says. What's causing it?
The iconic North Carolina lighthouse built in 1870 to stand guard over the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" is dripping something akin to blood, according to Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
Long streaks of red began appearing not long after workers began a Cape Hatteras Lighthouse restoration project that is pulling at the 154-year-old tower's bones.

Donation from a Local Nonprofit Helping Historic Eagle Bluff (WI) Lighthouse
Destination Door County recently donated money to preserve a piece of local history.
The door County Historical Society was awarded a $50,000 grant by Destination Door County in order to reconstruct the barn and summer kitchen at Eagle Bluff Lighthouse.

Stanford man builds 300 mini lighthouses to uplift those facing life-threatening illnesses, including 2-year-old boy
There is something about North Carolina lighthouses that inspired David McBride of Sanford to build close to 300 smaller versions of them.
They are his "gifts of hope" to others, like himself, who were diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. That included the family of a 2-year-old boy fighting cancer.

Hudson-Athens (NY) Lighthouse Celebrates 150 Years with Art and Poetry Exhibit
The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse, an iconic beacon in Athens, New York, is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a special exhibit titles "The Light in Our Eyes."
The exhibit, which is a collaboration between the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society and the Athens Cultural Center, features artwork and poetry created by students from Coxsackie-Athens, Catskill, and Hudson high schools. The students creations are inspired by the lighthouse, river life, and river lore.
