Heart of Louisiana: Sabine Pass Lighthouse
Efforts are underway to save one of the few remaining historic lighthouses along the Louisiana coast.

For the past 170 years, the brick Sabine Pass Lighthouse has stood tall above the entrance to the Sabine River, which separates southern Louisiana from Texas. Construction started on the coastal lighthouse in 1854 and it was lit in 1857.

Cork County Council to spend € 325K on new viewing platform for Youghal Lighthouse, Ireland
Cork County Council is set to spend € 325,000 on a new viewing platform for Youghal Lighthouse, which has been described as "one of the jewels" of "Youghal's tourist crown."

The county council has gone out to tender on the new viewing platform at the lighthouse, with works expected to start late this year and be completed by the middle of 2025.

Keeper James Presentations at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (NC) Thursday
For the second season, Keeper James will be presenting at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The brief July programs will be at 3:30PM on Thursday, July 18 followed by the second at 4:00 that day.

These are brief story-telling segments plus snippets of readings from his best-selling book, Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks: Dramatic Rescues and Fantastic Wrecks in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, Globe Pequot press.

Saving the Sand Island Lighthouse (AL) could cost millions
Dauphin Island has a rich history. One of its most historic sites requires a boat to see. The Sand Island Lighthouse was built in the 1800s, and it is really showing its age.

Long a part of Dauphin Island's ever-changing coastal history, the Sand Island Lighthouse still stands, worn but proud, three miles off the coast.

Scaffolding erected at St. Mary's Lighthouse (England) as repair job continues
Work continues to progress on a coastal icon as the council gives the landmark some TLC.

Scaffolding now adorns the grade II listed St. Mary's Lighthouse, on St. Mary's Island in Whitley Bay, as workers administer repairs and prepare it for a new lick of paint

Cape Reinga lighthouse (NZ) slip due to poor workmanship, DoC learns in report
A slip which threatened the Cape Reinga lighthouse last year was likely due to fill material being poorly placed in 2003, according to a report to the Department of Conservation.

The lighthouse and wider Te Paki Recreation Reserve were impacted by Northland's extreme high rainfall in early 2023, including a May storm where more than 20mm of rain per hour fell at the top of the country.

History Day Camp returns to Sand Point Lighthouse (MI)
History Day Camp at Sand Point Lighthouse returns for grades 2,3 and 4. Thursday August 1 from 10a.m. to 2 p.m.

The campers will take a journey into a 19th Century child's life in early Escambia.

Plumb Island Lighthouse (WI) Painting Project
Mihm Enterprises of Hamilton Michigan, arrived at Plum Island on June 27 to finish painting the Rear Range Light.

Mihm was on the island three years ago to paint the Front Range Light and the top of the Rear Range, however, there was not enough money at that time to completely paint the lighthouse.

The Sanibel lighthouse (FL) restoration is complete
Beachgoers are back at Sanibel, swimming, tanning and shelling!

WINK News reporter Tiffany Rizzo had the chance to watch the restoration and ask the community for their thoughts.
