The word "lighthouse" probably conjures images of idyllic beachside scenes or historic postcards that invoke a certain sense of nostalgia. They might be seen as beacons of hope to guide those in need during challenging of stormy conditions.
Every lighthouse has a story involving keepers, their families, pets and a lifestyle that could sometimes prove hard and solitary.

Old Point Loma (CA) Lighthouse In San Diego Closed For Restoration Until August.
If you're planning a trip to Cabrillo National Monument this summer, be prepared to skip the Old Point Loma Lighthouse on your itinerary.
The historic landmark, an emblem of San Diego's maritime history since 1855, is sealed off to visitors until the end of August for some much-needed TLV, Fox 5 San Diego reports.

A historic lighthouse is to undergo £250,000 worth of maintenance in the coming months.
Work to restore, paint and clean Herd Groyne lighthouse in South Shields, South Tyneside, will begin on 17 June.

Plans submitted for major repairs to iconic South Shields (England) lighthouse and pier damaged by Storm Babet
Plans to mend the storm damage at the iconic South Pier Lighthouse in South Shields have been submitted to council development chiefs.
The planning department of South Tyneside Council has received an application for the historic lighthouse and pier, which is over a century old.

Iconic Seacow Head Lighthouse (Canada) is wrapping up renos for a new visitor experience
The Seacow Head Lighthouse is a classic PEI landmark that's been getting some upgrades, with the volunteer group in charge acknowledging there have been "a few roadblocks along the way."
Jim MacFarlane is on the board of directors with Friends of Seacow Lighthouse Inc., which took ownership of the lighthouse from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in 2022.

General Services Administration seeks to transfer Ontonagon Harbor West Breakwater (MI) Light to agency or nonprofit
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) hopes to transfer ownership of the Ontonagon Harbor West Breakwater Light in Ontonagon County, Michigan. The historic lighthouse is available at no cost to eligible entities pursuant to the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act (NHLPA) of 2000.
Under the NHLPA, a lighthouse property that has been determined excess to the needs of the U.S. Coast Guard is made available at no cost to eligible entities.
