Tybee Island (GA) lighthouse repair brings unexpected 83K expense; total repairs to cost $1.6M

The first phase of preserving Tybee Island's icon, the 1773 historical lighthouse, is right on schedule for repairs to its windows, Fresnel lens, roof and masonry.

No, there was not snow on top of the St. Augustine (FL) Lighthouse

A video circulating on social media appears to show snow flurries coming from the St. Augustine Lighthouse.

Holiday open house at Sand Point (MI) Lighthouse

The Delta Count Historical Society will hold an open house at the Sand Point Lighthouse after Christmas. The public is invited to enjoy an old fashioned Christmas celebration at the lighthouse on Tuesday, Dec. 26 and Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

The open house is an annual holiday event. Guests are invited to enjoy cookies and hot beverages in the lighthouse and to tour the Delta County Historical Society Beaumier Museum.

Ireland's most famous lighthouse Fastnet built by Cornish

Standing sentinel over the rock the Irish call Carraig Aonair (lone rock), is the Fastnet lighthouse, an iconic structure built in the early 1900s.

The world renowned lighthouse is situated 3.5 miles from Cape Clear, south west Ireland, has warned shipping of the inherent danger for over 120 years.

This Week: S. Oregon Coast History Make with First Lighting of Cape Blanco Lighthouse

On December 13, 1870, the San Francisco Chronicle ran the following notice:

"The Light-House Board gives notice that a fixed white light of the first order of the system of Fresnel, will be exhibited for the first time on the evening of December 20, 1870, and on every evening thereafter, from sunset to sunrise, from the tower recently erected on Cape Blanco, Oregon."

Spend A Week As A Lighthouse Keeper At Bailey's Harbor, WI

The Ridges Sanctuary's Resident Docent Program is an opportunity to spend a week living as lighthouse keepers did in the early 1900s.

Living quarters for resident docents are in the Upper Range Light. Built in 1869, the Upper Range Light and its companion Lower Range Light are the only lighthouses of this design still on range and functional as navigational aids.
