However, lighthouses have also become a beacon of intrigue over time. There's something magical and even hopeful about seeing a towering lighthouse appear on the horizon.

Coast Guard sells land next to Conacicut (RI) lighthouse. Here's what we know.
A vacant lot on Jamestown's coastline overlooking Narragansett Bay has been sold.
The US General Services Administration offered for sale by public auction the vacant, ocean-front parcel in Jamestown adjacent to the former US Coast Guard lighthouse located at Conanicut Point.

Pigeon Point, California's tallest lighthouse getting $16-million makeover
A lighthouse perched on an ocean cliff halfway between Santa Cruz and Half Bay Moon has guided ocean mariners since 1872. Standing at 115-feet-tall, Pigeon Point is the tallest operating lighthouse on the West Coast.
In 2024, Pigeon Point Lighthouse will receive a $16-million makeover with hopes of reopening the beloved historic landmark to the public, state parks official announced on Monday.

Clover Island (WA) lighthouse decked out for Christmas and to honor veterans
Kennewick's Clover Island and its unmistakable lighthouse are decked out with thousands of twinkly lights to celebrate Christmas and to honor local veterans, courtesy of the Port of Kennewick.
The port strung light on trees along Clover Island Drive and around the lighthouse that greets visitors as they drive onto the island, which is near Kennewick's historic downtown.

Mayport Waterfront Partnership Director Bill Gulliford says the historic St. John's Lighthouse in Mayport is not moving.

'How the Grinch Stole Christmas ' read from atop lighthouse in Fairport Harbor (OH)
In the Village of Fairport Harbor this weekend, Timothy Purchase, as the Grinch, read "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss from the top of the lighthouse to thousands of spectators below.
The reading took place prior to Fairport's annual tree lighting on the evening of Dec. 2 as part of Harbor Holiday 2023.

150-Year-Old Craighill Channel Lower Range Front (MD) Lighthouse Auctioned for $150K
For the second time in six-years, a weathered historic lighthouse is sold at auction. In a last-minute flurry of bids, the rundown 150-year-old structure sold for $150,000.
The Craighill Channel Lower Range Front Light Station turned 150 years old this year. Sitting at the mouth of the Patapsco River about two miles offshore from North Point State Park.

Tail Point (WI) A Symbol For Those Passing Through
The same year that Wisconsin was recognized as a state, Green Bay partnered with Congress to build its first lighthouse.

The first lighthouse proposed in the area was placed near the mouth of the Fox River but Pottawatomi Island, the proposed site, was deemed unsuitable for construction and uninhabitable for a keeper.

Stamford's ancient "gateway to the harbor" and most famous navigational aid for boats now needs some help of its own.
The Stamford Lighthouse, also known as the Ledge Obstruction Light or Chatham Rock Light, is recognizable to anyone who has sailed in and around the city's harbor or looked out toward the Long Island Sound for more than a century.
