Popular Bay Area oceanfront park to triple in size under proposed deal

Scenic coastal bluffs that stretch for more than a mile near one of the Bay Area's most dramatic coastal landmarks, Pigeon Point Lighthouse, would be added to California's state parks system under a proposed deal unveiled Monday.

Under the agreement, the Peninsula Open Space Trust, a nonprofit environmental group based in Palo Alto, will donate 132 acres of oceanfront coastal property just sound of the lighthouse.

Lighthouse enthusiasts invited to spend a week at Point aux Barques Maritime Museum, MI

The Point aux Barques Maritime Museum (PABMM) features the 89-foot tall lighthouse built in 1857, attached keeper's house, beautifully restored 1908 assistant keeper's house and 1876 US Life Saving Service station house.

Point Aux Barques, MI - Chad Kaiser 

PABMM is open during the summer season from late May through September, Wednesday through Sunday. Assistant Keepers arrive Tuesday afternoon and leave the following Monday, committing to 35 hours of service. Volunteers must apply in groups of two to four people with a fee of $150/per person for the week.
