Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse, MI, undergoing restoration

Lakeshore Keepers acquired the Manistee North Pierhead Light in January 2025 and immediately the non-profit began restoration. New safety railings, interior paint and restoration of power and lighting have already been completed in the nearly 100-year-old structure.

The lighthouse group is planning on being open for climbs beginning May 25, 2026 at 1 p.m. The main level will be the gift shop space where tickets for climbs are purchased.  May 25 will also be the official opening day. Lakeshore Keepers is hosting  a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Manistee Chamber of Commerce from 12-1 p.m.

Presque Isle & Erie Land Lighthouses, PA, record highest visitation since 2021 

A total of 19,281 people visited both the Presque Isle and Erie Land (Old Presque Isle) Lighthouses in 2025 with 2% of all visitors coming from 35 different countries.

The Lake Erie Lights of PA operate the two lights that are open, in season, for climbs, along with the North Pier Lighthouse which is not open for visitors.

Property linked to 125-year-old Flannan Isles Lighthouse, Scotland, mystery to be restored

A community group is to restore a historic building linked to the mysterious disappearance of three lighthouse keepers 125 years ago.

Thomas Marshall, James Ducat and Donald McAruthur vanished from the Flannan Isles lighthouse, west of Lewis in the Western Isles, in December 1900.

Eerie sight: Bitter cold transforms St. Joseph North Pier lighthouse, MI, into 'ice monster' 

A photographer was greeted with a unique sight as a Michigan lighthouse was transformed into an "ice monster" due to bitter cold temperatures.

In a Facebook post, Nathan Voytovick shared video of an incredible sight - was appears to be dozens of curved icicles hanging on a lighthouse beacon.

Advocates want a new future for historic Lighthouse Depot buildings that once put Staten Island, NY, on the map

In St. George, just feet from the busy ramp that buses and cars take to drop passengers at the Staten Island Ferry, is a so-narrow-you-can-easily-miss-it-turnoff, leading to a short street paved with stone.

Those who make the turn onto the block, which bends back to run parallel between Bay Street and the water, soon end at a plaza surrounded by Staten Island history: five buildings dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the site was the nationally-significant U.S. Lighthouse Service Depot.

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, NC, restoration advances with Fresnel lens completion despite structural challenges

The long-running restoration of the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse continues to progress with several major milestones reached, even as some unforeseen structural challenges extend the timeline and reshape repair plans.

Plan to open up Grand Haven lighthouse, MI, to the public could move forward with city council approval

Grand Haven City Council is set to decide whether to approve plans that could open the city's historic lighthouse to the public for the first time, bringing significant changes to the popular beach destination.
