Augustin Fresnel: Through a New Lens living history performances

In celebration of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Outer Banks Conservationists and the Northern Outer Banks will present Joseph Smith, a New York-based living history performer, in two special performances of his one-man play Augustin Fresnel: Through a New Lens.

The performance will take place on November 29 from 4-5p.m. and November 30 from 11-noon.

Author shines light on the importance of protecting Great Lakes' lighthouses

The book "Mastering the Island Seas" (U. of Wisconsin Press, $36.95) helps explain the history of Great Lakes lighthouses and navigation aids and the importance of protecting them.

Off-season comes to Lighthouse County Park

CHEC relocating at-risk Buxton power lines to protect service to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, NC, facilities

Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHEC) has begun relocating a critical section of electrical line in Buxton that provides power to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Visitors Center, and other nearby National Park Service (NPS) facilities.

The project shifts the power line away from a highly eroded oceanside area that has seen 15 home collapses since mid-September, replacing the at-risk stretch of overhead lines with a new underground system farther inland along Lighthouse Road.
