Coast Guard Fixed Gay Head Lighthouse, MA, Pattern
The Aquinnah select board provided updates on Gay Head Lighthouse concerns and finalized an agreement with State Police during a meeting Wednesday.
Select board member and lighthouse keeper Chris Manning said the U.S. Coast Guard removed the newly installed Gay Head Lighthouse LED beacon on Monday to correct its rotation and beam pattern at the agency's shop in Woods Hole.

Split Rock Lighthouse, MN, to mark 50th anniversary of Edmund Fitzgerald sinking
Split Rock Lighthouse and the Minnesota Historical Society will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald this fall
For 40 years, the lighthouse has hosted the Memorial Beacon Lighting annually to honor the 29 crew members lost aboard the Fitzgerald and all others lost to Lake Superior's waters.

Great Lakes lighthouses at risk without more funding
The book "Mastering the Inland Seas" helps explain the history of Great Lakes lighthouses and navigational aids and the importance of protecting them.
Historically, lighthouses, powered by whale oil and kerosene, helped large commercial vessels navigate the harsh environment of the Great Lakes.

Port Washington Lighthouse, WI, on course for completion
Crews will likely start removing the scaffolding that has encircled Port Washington's iconic lighthouse in the next week, City Engineer Roger Strohm said Tuesday.
He expects the lighthouse to be uncovered and the breakwater reopened by the end of October.
