Labor Day Lighthouse 5K draws 113 runners in Buxton, NC
The second annual Labor Day Lighthouse 5K brought runners, walkers, and supporters to the base of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on Monday, September 1, despite gusty winds that carried through the early morning hours.
Organized by Barrier Island Group (B.I.G.), the race has quickly become a Labor Day tradition in Buxton, offering a scenic 3.1-mile course around the iconic lighthouse while raising funds for local nonprofit groups in the process.

Local lighthouses featured in WBGU series beginning Sept. 11
Last fall, WBGU-PBS Producer/Director Kaitlyn Kuch Finkler and Editor Meghan Murray sat inside the Boathouse on the edge of Derby Pond at Waterworks Park and talked with Port Clinton Lighthouse Conservancy President, Rich Norgard.
As they filmed the conversation, Norgard talked about the lighthouse's history, including the fascinating story of its restoration.

Retired teachers hosting boat, Rock Island, NY, lighthouse tour
The Franklin-St. Lawrence NYSUT United Retirees will host a boat tour with Clayton Island Tours to Rock Island Lighthouse on a glass-bottom boat at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8. The event is open to all teacher retirees and spouses.
The two-hour, 45-minute boat tour begins at the Clayton Island Tour's dock and includes a one-hour stop at the historic Rock Island Lighthouse.

Climbing the Cape May, NJ, Lighthouse
As someone who has spent practically my entire life in South Jersey, I mush admit that until just a few weeks ago, I hadn't done something that I've been looking at for decades.
My daughter and I climbed to the top of the lighthouse in Cape May.

Watch: Whales seen breaching close to iconic Pemaquid Point, ME, lighthouse
Two humpback whales were spotted breaching close to shore by the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse in Bristol on Sunday.
In video captured by Bristol Parks and Recreation cameras mounted on the keeper's house at the lighthouse, a crowd of people can bee seen lining the shore.

Fourteen lighthouses throughout Maine will welcome visitors during the annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day on Saturday, Sept. 13.
In honor of this special event, Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse will open the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse tower.
