This Outer Banks, NC, Island has 70 miles of wild beaches and the tallest lighthouse in the US
The southernmost of the Outer Banks' Hatteras Island and its seven villages are all located within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, a 70-mile stretch of stunning sandy beaches, salt marshes and maritime forests.
The island is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Pamlico Sound on the other, leading to ideal conditions for kayakers, fishermen, and paddle boarders.

Lighthouse keeper went slowly mad as he lived with corpse for four months
Robert Eggers' 2019 psychological horror The Lighthouse, featuring powerhouse performances from Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, won acclaim for its striking black-and-white cinematography and surreal atmosphere.
The film narrates the tale of two nineteenth-century lighthouse keepers stranded at a remote New England outpost during a violent storm, with isolation, mistrust, and strange visions taking their toll.

Preserving a piece of history: Duluth, MN, lighthouse to get new life
The Duluth South Breakwater Outer Light is set to get new life, thanks to the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association.
The lighthouse, built in 1901, sits on the Park Point side of the Aerial Lift Bridge and has a red roof and a green beacon.

Eagle Island Light, ME, hosts annual open house
On August 10, visitors had the opportunity to visit Eagle Island and tour the historic Eagle Island lighthouse, built in 1837, and its adjacent bell tower.
The island, located a mile and a half west of Deer Isle, was for generations the year-round home of the Quinn family, who engaged in farming and fishing.

The 2025 Port Clinton Lighthouse Festival, OH, will be held August 16
The Port Clinton Lighthouse & Maritime Festival was established to celebrate Port Clinton's rich maritime heritage, exemplified by the beautifully restored Port Clinton Lighthouse.
The one-day festival featured lighthouse tours, nautically themed art, and educational programs, food and merchandise vendors, music by the Ottawa County Bluegrass Band, and other entertainment, a display of wooden boats and stunning views of the Lake Erie Islands.

Volunteers from across North America giving crumbling Peter Island (N.S.) lighthouse a facelift
On an uninhabited island just off the community of Westport, N.S., a part of the community's past is quietly disintegrating.
But this summer, a group of volunteers will be arriving on Brier Island, from across North America, to bring that structure back to life.
