The MV Sandy, operated by the National Parks Service, has two separate tours to Rock Harbor and Passage Island Lighthouses. To obtain tickets and information, visit the Rock Harbor Lodge Office in Rock Harbor. Tours are operated from early June to early September. Fare rates vary; children under 12 are half price. The Passage Island boat tour traverses 8 miles, crossing one of Isle Royale’s shipping lanes. Once on the rugged and rocky island, a 2-mile round-trip hike leads to Passage Island Lighthouse. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring water. Note that the tour is self-guided. The Rock Harbor lighthouse tour gives visitors an opportunity to step inside this 1855 lighthouse and enjoy its maritime exhibits, as well as visit the historic commercial fishery with a resident fishery demonstrator (July through August) and the moose and wolf research station at Bangsund Cabin. (906) 482-0984
