Itinerary

July 8, 2010

GDANSK
Arrive in Gdansk, Poland. In the evening there will be a welcome dinner at the hotel where we will spend the first five nights.

July 9, 2010

MALBORK
Our bus will give us a lift to Malbork (home to largest existing brick castle in world). Lunch will be at the restaurant in the castle. On the return, we will see Krynica Morska, a small lighthouse near the Russian border. Dinner that evening will be at one of the local restaurants in Gdansk.

July 10, 2010

GDANSK
A guided walk through the old city of Gdansk starts the day. After that we will visit the maritime museum nearby. The rest of the day is on your own to further visit the many shops and historic buildings of the old city. Dinner will be at one of the restaurants in the city.

July 11, 2010

GDANSK
The bus will take us to visit the lighthouses of Gdansk and vicinity. One goal is to be at Nowy Port prior to the dropping of one of the last time balls in the world. After lunch we'll visit Northern Point Lighthouse. Next is Fort Wiloujscie an old castle where for some hundred years a light was burning in the tower. Dinner will be at one of the restaurants in the city. Then there will be free time on your own in the evening.

GDANSK - SOPOT
After breakfast at the hotel, we will continue our tour of Gdansk with a stop at Oliwa Cathedral where we will enjoy an organ concert. Then we will travel to Sopot where we will take in Monte Casino Street and see the Sopot tower. We will have lunch at a restaurant in Sopot. Then we're off to Gdynia where we'll visit Kosciuszko Square, the Dar Pomorza Museum and enjoy a walk on the boulevard. Dinner that evening is on your own in Gdansk.

July 13, 2010

HEL PENINSULA
After breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and take a ferry to the Hel Peninsula: we'll visit the Rozewie, Jastarnia, and Hel lighthouses as well as the Museum of Coastal Defence. The town of Hel is the last place in Poland to surrender to the Nazis and the last place in Poland to be liberated from the Nazis. In the evening, we will check into our hotel in Jastrzebia Góra. Dinner will be at the hotel.

July 14, 2010

JASTRZEBIA GÓRA - STRZELINKO
We will check out of our hotel and head to the lighthouses of Stilo and Czolpino. In between the two lighthouses, we will explore Slowinski National Park. In the afternoon we will reach our hotel in Strzelinko. For dinner, we will enjoy a Polish-style barbecue at the hotel.

July 15, 2010

USTKA
Today there will be three lighthouses to see and climb: Ustka, Jaroslawiec and Darlówek. Later in the day, we will check into our hotel in Kolobrzeg for two nights. Dinner will be at the hotel.

July 16, 2010

KOLOBRZEG
After breakfast our bus takes us to Gaski and Kolobrzeg lighthouses. After lunch, we'll take a sight-seeing tour of Kolobrzeg with an English-speaking guide. Dinner that evening is on your own.

July 17, 2010

SWINOUJSCIE - SZCZECIN
We continue westward to Niechorze lighthouse, one of the best looking lighthouses in Poland. A two hour drive will take us to Swinoujscie, at 65 meters it is the highest lighthouse in the country. Along the way, we'll make a short stop in Trzesacz to see the ruins of the church. After Swinoujscie we drive to Szczecin where there is a maritime museum. Some free hours in the afternoon allow for touring the city's many historical and cultural offerings. One tour of particular interest takes you below the streets into the concrete bunkers where people hid during allied bombing. The farewell dinner will be at the hotel.
