Itinerary

February 29, 2008

Depart USA for Buenos Aires, Argentina. (Note - most flights are overnight with non-stops available from Miami).

March 1, 2008

ARRIVE IN BUENOS AIRES
Arrive in Buenos Aires. Transportation from the airport to the hotel is on your own. Day of rest. We will meet for dinner at the hotel and stay overnight in Buenos Aires.

March 2, 2008

BUENOS AIRES
Breakfast at the hotel. Spend day touring Buenos Aires, shopping, and resting. Dinner will be at a local restaurant and we will also see a tango show. We will stay overnight in Buenos Aires.

March 3, 2008

BUENOS AIRES - VILLA GESELL
Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Buenos Aires on our tour bus after breakfast and make our way south in a clockwise fashion along the coast of the province of Buenos Aires. See lighthouses of Faro de Punta Piedras, Cabo de San Antonio, and Punta Medanos. Most lighthouses in Argentina are still manned (by the Argentine Navy's Hydrographic Service), and we are contacting the authorities to obtain permission to visit and climb most of the lighthouses we will be seeing on the trip. The lighthouses can be seen on the official Argentina Navy Hydrographic website at www.hidro.gov.ar/Historia/ListadeFaros.asp. Have dinner and spend the night in the beach resort area of Villa Gesell.

March 4, 2008

VILLA GESELL - MAR DEL PLATA
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart Villa Gesell to stop and see the Faro Querandi Lighthouse. It is located in a remote uninhabited area with no roads; the only access is through 4-wheel drive vehicles. Afterwards, depart to Mar del Plata to visit the Faro de Punta Mogotes Lighthouse. Have dinner and spend the night in Mar del Plata.

March 5, 2008

MAR DEL PLATA - CLAROMECO
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart Mar del Plata, stopping to see the Faro de Miramar Lighthouse (located on top of a building in an urban area), along with the Faro de Quequen and Faro de Claromeco Lighthouses. Have dinner and spend the night in the Claromeco area.

March 6, 2008

CLAROMECO - BAHIA BLANCA
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart Claromeco area and continue west to visit the Faro de Recalada Lighthouse near Monte Hermoso. Dinner will be at the hotel and we will spend the night Bahia Blanca.

March 7, 2008

BAHIA BLANCA - VIEDMA
Breakfast at the hotel. Continue south to visit the lighthouses of Faro de El Rincon, Faro de Segunda Barranca, and the Faro de Rio Negro. Have dinner at a local restaurant and spend the night in the city of Viedma in the province of Rio Negro.

March 8, 2008

VIEDMA - BUENOS AIRES
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the local airport and then fly from Viedma to Buenos Aires that afternoon. (Important note: If the flight or an alternate flight is not available, we will transfer by coach and depart early in the morning). Dinner will be at the hotel and we will stay overnight in Buenos Aires.

BUENOS AIRES - COLONIA DEL SACRAMENTO, URUGUAY
Breakfast at the hotel. Take a ferry from Buenos Aires across the River Plate to the historic village of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. We will take a city tour and also see the lighthouse of Faro de Colonia. (Colonia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.) Note - all lighthouses in Uruguay are manned and operated by the Uruguayan Navy. We are corresponding with the authorities to obtain permission to visit and climb most of the lighthouses we will be seeing on the trip. We will have dinner at the hotel and stay overnight in Colonia del Sacramento.

March 10, 2008

COLONIA DEL SACRAMENTO - MONTEVIDEO
Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Colonia and continue eastward along the coast towards Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, stopping for visits at the Faro de Isla Flores Lighthouse in special vehicles and also visit the Faro de Punta Brava and Faro de Cerro de Montevideo Lighthouses. Dinner will be at the hotel and we will spend the night in Montevideo.

March 11, 2008

MONTEVIDEO - PUNTA DEL ESTE
Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Montevideo to Punta Del Este, stopping to visit the Isla de Lobos Lighthouse with special transfers, the Faro de Punta del Este Lighthouse and then taking a city tour of Punta del Este. We will have dinner at the hotel and stay overnight in Punta del Este.

March 12, 2008

PUNTA DEL ESTE - MONTEVIDEO
Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Punta del Este heading east to visit and climb the manned lighthouses of Punta Jose Ignacio, Cabo Santa Maria, Faro de la Paloma and finally a visit in 4-wheel drive vehicles to Faro de Cabo Polonio Lighthouse. Return to Montevideo, have a farewell dinner, and spend the night.

March 13, 2008

Breakfast at the hotel. Tour participants will have the option of staying in Montevideo and flying back to the USA from there, or of taking a ferry to Buenos Aires and flying back home from there on Friday, March 14th.
