Hawai'i
Nov 07, 2018 to Nov 20, 2018

Aloha and welcome to our Hawaii Lighthouse and Leisure tour. This will be an exciting adventure featuring six days on Oahu, sometimes called “The Gathering Place,” and it certainly lives up to its name with its diverse population and a fusion of East and West cultures. From Honolulu we board the Pride of America for a seven-day cruise where we see some pretty impressive lighthouses, Diamond Head, Lahaina, Kumukahi and Makapu’s just to name a few. The ship will also carry us to Kauai, the oldest and northernmost island in the Hawaiian chain, it is draped in emerald valleys, sharp mountain spires and jagged cliffs aged by time and the elements. Maui, “The Valley Isle, “known for its world-famous beaches, the sacred Iao Valley, views of migrating humpback whales (during winter months),and magnificent sunrise and sunset views from Haleakala. The Big Island of Hawaii, is the youngest and largest island in the Hawaiian chain. Nearly twice as big as all of the other Hawaiian Islands combined (hence, its nickname, “Big Island”), its sheer size is awe-inspiring. From the massive volcanoes Maunakea and Maunaloa to the jet-black sands of Punaluu Beach, the “Big Island” is an unrivaled expression of the power of nature.

If that were not enough there is the Hula. In ancient Hawaii, a time when a written language did not exist, hula and its chants played an important role in keeping history, genealogy, mythology and culture alive. With each movement – a hand gesture, step of foot, swaying of hips – a story would unfold. Through the hula, the Native Hawaiians were connected with their land and their gods. There are two types of hula – Hula Kahiko is the traditional or ancient style of hula tied to hula lineage with motions, voice and choreography, that comes from an old place, patterned after ancient hula. It can also be ancient hula still being danced. Hula Auana is the modern style of hula, usually coming from a school of hula that has a genealogy, but with new choreography and music.

A visit to the Hawaiian Islands is not complete without experiencing a luau – a Hawaiian feast featuring lively music and vibrant cultural performances from Hawaii and greater Polynesia. Along with some other fun things that we have planned for this trip, you can kayak, snorkel, hike the trails, go ziplining or just lay on the beach or at the pool.

So, make your escape to Hawaii and discover the undeniable allure of the islands.
