Title image for The Last Lightkeepers

Lighthouses are icons of maritime safety and their imagery has an extended place in art and literature. As technology has made lighthouses (and their human keepers) obsolete there is a movement to preserve what remains of these historic structures. Rob Apse's film "The Last Lightkeepers"  discusses the lighthouses of New England and tells the story of individuals fighting to preserve them while recounting the history, traditions and folklore of these aids to navigation. The film includes segments on well known figures in the New England lighthouse world, including Ford Reiche (owner of Halfway Rock Lighthouse), Dolly Bicknell (president of Project Gurnet and Bug Lights), Dave Waller (owner of Graves Lighthouse), Bob Trapani Jr. (executive director of the American Lighthouse Foundation), and Paul St. Germain (president of the Thacher Island Association). In this conversation with U.S. Lighthouse Society historian Jeremy D'Entremont, Rob shares clips from the film and discusses the adventures he had while filming it. The film is available to buy or rent on Amazon.com.
