Policies & Payment Info
Active membership in the U.S. Lighthouse Society is required for participation in all tours. For individuals traveling with a roommate, only one needs to be a member. To join, visit our membership page or call 415-362-7255
A deposit of $250/person is required for all tours. Space on a tour is not guaranteed until a deposit is received. Note: Final payment for a tour must be remitted using the same method as your deposit (i.e. check or credit).
Payment in Full
Invoices reflecting your choice of payment by check or credit are mailed 75 days in advance of tours and payment in full is required 45 days prior to departure for both domestic and international tours. Tour packets containing the final itinerary, tour journal, name badges and other tour related items will be mailed approximately three weeks in advance of the tour.
Extra Hotel Nights
Tour participants often request additional room nights (before and after a tour) at the rate the Society is charged. The availability of this option depends on the individual hotel's reservation and payment policies. Contact the office for details about a specific tour. When available, you will be asked to add the appropriate amount to your tour invoice prior to remitting the final balance.

Also, any non-recoverable expenses are deducted from your tour payment before any refund. We encourage you to consider purchasing trip insurance to cover unexpected events. Partial Tour Attendees
We occasionally receive requests from members living in the area of a tour who wish to stay in their homes and/or drive their vehicle behind the bus to the various lighthouses we visit. Unfortunately, our schedules and timing do not provide for this option. Many tours have one or more lighthouse cruises that are open to all members. Contact the office regarding the options for a specific tour.
While every attempt is made to adhere to a tour's published itinerary occasionally it is necessary to make adjustments prior to or dur-ing a tour. This is normally a result of unavoidable cancellations, traffic, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. When-ever possible, alternatives will be substituted for the cancelled or missed activities. However, we cannot guarantee that any specific tour activity will ultimately be included. No refund is given for tour changes.
Our schedules do not normally allow for members to attend Saturday or Sunday religious services.
Tour Member Expectations
Our tours are physically active. Please prepare for walking on a variety of surfaces including uneven pavement, dirt pathways, cobblestones and stairs. You will be getting on and off of coaches and boats and handling your own luggage. Hotels on international tours may be smaller than American standards and have fewer amenities. Some may lack air conditioning and elevators. Tour members requiring additional assistance must be accompanied by an able companion who can provide assistance.
No smoking or vaping is allowed on the bus, in the hotel, or where other tour members are present.
Children under 18
Children under age 18 must room with and be accompanied on the tour by a parent or guardian, who is responsible for participating in all tour activities in which the child partakes.
