Duties: Include cleaning and light maintenance tasks, assisting with tours and keeping a log. Must be in good physical condition and able to climb vertical 20-foot pier ladders.

Facility: The Keepers’ Quarters has one bedroom (2 single beds), spacious quarters, free WiFi, cable TV and a well equipped kitchen. Keepers provide their own linens and food. Maximum occupancy is 2 adults. Children and pets are not allowed. Two parking spaces are available directly behind the lighthouse.
Duties: Climb the 37 steps to the tower to clean the windows, sweep & vacuum. Perform routine ground maintenance, light housekeeping and some maintenance projects (painting, repairs, etc.). Maintain visitation records and run the gift shop (May-Oct).  Winter keepers have the option of doing a weekend for $75 and not retail duties.
Rates: $200/couple per week, $370 for 2 weeks.

St. Helena Island Lighthouse

Facility: Housing opportunities are varied and are dependent on the groups scheduled on the island. Volunteer keeper openings are available from mid-June through mid-August, with tours of duty ranging from a minimum of 5 days through the entire two month period, based on the volunteer's availability.
Duties: Volunteers will be transported by boat from Mackinaw City to St. Helena Island and will spend their entire tour of duty on the island before being returned to Mackinaw City. Duties can include painting, sanding, cooking, washing dishes, dusting, hand-pumping and carrying water, serving as a tour guide, and clearing brush and weeds.

South Fox Island Lighthouse

Facilities:  Independent camping.  Only amenities are a flush toilet, picnic table and fire pit.  You need to provide everything else, include all your food for 2+ weeks.  Couples or small groups of friends are ideal candidates. 
Transportation is provided to and from the island.
Duties:  Provide tours for occasional visitors, grounds upkeep and restoration projects based on your abilities.  Current needs are for finished carpentry in addition to  painting, ground maintenance and beach grooming.

Lighthouse enthusiasts are invited to serve this summer as volunteer lighthouse keepers at the Tawas Point Lighthouse, in Tawas Point State Park.  Keepers will receive lodging on site in exchange for conducting guided tours of the lighthouse. In 2017 the program will run from May 17 through October 17.
